Q: For those who use stunners or self defense spray?
Don't you worry that if you stun or spray a person on the street that as her is falling, he might crack his head open on the pavement/sidewalk and bleed to death. Then you would become a killer

A: no, I care more about my safety and the safety of my loved ones. Besides, if it's self-defense then I would not be a killer, the guy attacked me and we all know that our actions carry consequences. We reap what we sow, it is the law of nature.

Q: Can I keep a Stun Gun or Pepper Spray at home for self-defense,if I live in New York?
Hi, Could someone help me to understand the Law of possessing a stun gun or pepper spray for self-defence? I've heard and read that it's illegal to have these tools in New York state? Thank you.

A: It should be illegal all over the U.S. Those are not effective tools for home protection, I suggest a 12 guage shot gun which is totally legal to own. A 12 guage is effective for home defense.

Q: Should I make my 14 year old daughter take a self defense course and carry pepper spray in her purse?
if you had a teenage daughter, would you give her pepper spray to carry in her purse? or mace? or would you just make her take a self defense course?

A: In most states it is illegal for a minor to carry mace/pepper spray. Not all states, but most. If I was genuinely concerned about my daughter, and believed her to be responsible with it, would I provide this to her as a last means of self-defense....Without question, yes. Bare in mind, you could potentially breaking the law providing it to her. If she gets caught at school with it, she and or you could be facing problems. Either you or her or both of you could face charges or at the very least, if it is in violation of school policy, and probably is, she will be looking at some type of school discipline. Self defense class? Absolutley! Completely legal, everyone has the right to defend themself.

Q: Are people that eat a lot of spicy food less vulnerable to self-defense pepper spray?
For example, if you habitually eat a lot of Mexican food with chili peppers, does your body develop a tolerance to oleoresin capsicum?

A: I'd have to say no based on my own experiences although I did wonder the same thing much like you are asking. I eat some form of pepper sauce on almost everything like on my eggs in the morning, etc. I've graduated past most hot sauces sold in supermarkets and I'm off to the really hot stuff now. I cook with all types of chillies in my meals and once I scratched near my eye (not even in my eye) and let me tell you, I was in some pain. I think I was using serrano chillies at the time which are pretty high on the scoville heat scale. I ended up having to rub milk on my eyes to open them. Just in case your curious, pepper spray is much more concentrated than that. It does stand to reason though that if I did that a bunch of times I'd eventually have less effects since I've built up a tolerance for eating hot foods.

Q: Has anyone had to use Pepper Spray on someone, for self defense?
How effective was the pepper spray when it comes to self defense?

A: Yep, I've had to use it twice. My only piece of advice is to make sure the wind is not blowing in your direction. The first time I was mugged, I sprayed it toward my attacker and the wind was blowing my way so it went into my face. Not being able to see and in severe pain, I had to use the next available weapon I had which was a book bag heavily loaded with grad school books. Thankfully, it did enough damage to stop the attack. The second time was more successful, I got the attacker in the face, he instantly released his grip on me to put his hands to his face giving me valuable time to escape. But, now every time I find myself walking alone and get that intuitive feeling of not being safe, I check the wind while I get my finger on the trigger.

Is pepper spray legal in Quebec for self defense purpose?

Q: What is the best self defense spray I can buy?
I am a non violent fellon, going on 6 1/2 years. This October I will have my felony expunged if all goes well. Anyhow, I have my daughter coming this April and I feel the need to be able to protect my family. I live in Virginia and carry a basic 3 inch knife from walmart. But as we know a knife can work but , it would be best to spray and leave the situation at that. But I want what will work that won't allow one to keep attacking at least not at a good performance. I can handle myself well but can't be brawling with my child with me. The knive I am not sure if I can carry but , I carry it on me for the reasons that I go fishing if asked. I also am a Lecordon Bleu Graduate and my life revolves around knives. So what can I have here in Virginia. Even if its not legal what is the best, least law trouble thing to have. Sure I can carry a bat, just looks tacky on my baby stroller when im decidiing to go to the beach and hit balls. Or where ever I happen to be walking. What about Saberred.com I hear their good..I do hear plain pepper spray sucks, that A mix is better. I also have been long done with probation. never had perolle. Never did jail time. Non violent .

A: The best self-defense spary is MK, which actually makes OC spray, as opposed to "Mace", which is actually a brand name. OC (oleoresin capsicum) is particulate matter that, even after it dries, sticks to the skin. Additionally, some OC sprays can contain a dye that is activated with a black light so, if you spray a suspect and he flees and the police apprehend him later on, they can identify him. You may also want to look into a personal electroshock device, such as a Taser, which have found success with civilian models, which are smaller than a police-issued X26 (most fit in your pocket, purse, etc) and deliver the same amount of NMI (neuromuscular incapacitation) potential as a police-style device. Stay safe. I'm glad your felony will be expunged.

Q: In Canada is it legal to own pepper spray or mace for self defense purposes?
Or more specifically Saskatchewan? And if so is there any risks of criminal charges if you do use it?

A: As far as I know still it's illegal to carry pepper spray intended to be used against people (silly law but that's how it is right now). BUT many people go around the law because it's legal to own and carry Dog or Bear Mace (you can't admit you plan to use it on people)... still you would need to prove legitimate self-defense situation, you can't go around "dog/bear macing" people just because you over reacted. ======================== Pepper Spray Law In Canada "In Canada all products with a label containing the words pepper spray, mace, etc, or otherwise originally produced for use on humans are classified as a prohibited weapon[27]. Only Peace Officers, and individuals/corporations who have special government permits may legally carry or possess pepper spray. Any similar canister with the labels reading "dog spray" and/or "bear spray" is regulated under the Pest Control Products Act - while legal to be carried by anyone, it is against the law if its use causes 'a risk of imminent death or serious bodily harm to another person' or harming the environment and carries a penalty up to a fine of $500,000 and jail time of maximum 3 years[28]. Of course, the legality of using spray intended for animal deterent on a person would be determined in court on a case-by-case basis." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper_spray#In_Canada

Q: Is carrying/using a dye-spray for self-defense in the UK legal?
If so, where can I buy it? Is it easy to use? Is it efficient? Can it leak in one's purse?

A: Since nobody has guns, knives or any other weapons in UK, I guess it would be effective. I wouldn't try it in the U.S., since here, even without weapons, our criminals can be violent and might not like it. Many violent crimes in the U.S. are committed using bare hands, must be nice to live in a place with no violent criminals (which makes me wonder why you would need anything for self-defense, I would think a water pistol would be just as effective).

Q: what is the penalty for carrying pepper spray in UK? & what is the best self-defense spray, bouncer/redstoppa?

A: It doesn't seem like there should be a penalty for carrying it, but you should probably try asking this question again on the UK site (click on it at the bottom of this page) to get a more informed answer.
