Q: Two National Defense ribbons?
I am an active duty Marine. If I were to finish my four year commitment with an honorable discharge, then join the Army ROTC and become an Army officer, would I rate a star on my National Defense medal?
A: Unfortunately no. You only get per time of war. If as an officer we do enter another time of war in which it becomes authorized then you will have earned the star. Hope this helps!
Q: All US Marines want to do something real cool? Lets send that woman police officer our National Defense Medals?

Q: Global War On Terrorism Service Medal for Basic Training?

Does the 30 consecutive days and 60 non consecutive days of active service rule apply to reserve tpu soldiers who are currently drilling, or do they have to be activated/mobilized?
A: I sure hope not.
In the USMC you have to be at your permanent unit for a certain amount of time before you EARN that award. The ND award if given to all who graduate boot camp.
Q: Have any of you veteran's had a hard time finding a government job?
I am a veteran and my compensation claim is in the final rating stage. Currently I'm a quality assurance specialist that is contracted by the VA, but I want a government job. Is it competitive? how about if I got a 30% rating and the National Defense Medal.
A: as with the real world it depends on your MOS, because if your job in the army was sitting around spitting seeds than that doesnt translate well into a civilian-world job.
depending on your veteran's status you might qualify for 5 points extra in the hiring process
Q: Do veterans of the Cold War deserve a Cold War Victory Medal over commuism?
Do Cold War veterans deserve to be awared a Cold War Victory Medal, National Defense Medal and a Euroupe Defense Service Medal? Was the Cold War a "war"? Was the Cold War in defense of our National defense?. Us and nato troops guarded the most dangerous border ever in the history of mankind, often against overwhelming odds, 2 to 1. to prevent all out nuke war. there was causulties, terrorist attacks and hostile encounters with Soviet troops along a border that would have ended the world as we know it. Yet there is no military reconition as in other campaigns to reconize these brave men and women who sacrificed alot to preserve peace, and contain communism. These are the forgotten Veterans of America longest undeclared war in history.
A: Cold War veterans must be credited for the crumbling of the once mighty USSR and they must deserve medals for this achievement.

http://tinypic.com/r/awer7n/3
I know that the medal on the far left is the National Defense Service Medal and the one of the far right is the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, but after scouring the internet I can't find out what the center medal is. Does anyone know?
A: Iraqi Campaign Medal
Q: What metals or ribbons are automaticly awarded to Alaskan National Guardsman, if any?
I ask only because a new soldier in my unit was an alaska national guardsman for 6 months prior to going active duty. Are there any which are awarded automaticly like the "Army Service Ribbon," "Global War on Terrorism Service Medal Ribbon," and National Defense Service Medal Ribbon" for the US Army at the present time?
He's a new soldier and I'd like him to look his best for his Class A's for funeral detail, so anything that he can honestly say he's earned I'd like for him to be able to show.
A: If he received no further commendations while in the Guard, he will have no other awards to wear other than the "standard issue." If he was mobilized during that time though, he could wear the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device.
Q: What Air Force Awards and Decorations will tranfer to the US Coast Guard
I'm in the Air Force as a Security Forces Member and a Senior Airman. My Awards and Decs are:
1. Joint Service Achievement Medal 0
2. Air Force Achievement Medal 0
3. Meritorious Unit Award 0
4. AF Outstanding Unit Award 2
5. National Defense Service Medal 0
6. Air Force Combat Action Medal 0
7. Southwest Asia Service Medal 0
8. Iraq Campaign Medal 1
9. Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal 0
10. Global War on Terrorism Service Medal 0
11. AF Overseas Ribbon Short 0
12. Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border 1
13. AF Longevity Service 0
14. Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon 1
15. AF Training Ribbon
A: The only things that wouldn't would be #'s 14 and 15. The USCG has our own marksmanship ribbons - so yours wouldn't transfer over. Just to make sure, #15 is for ALS, correct? If so, you wouldn't be able to wear it, as you didn't attend ALS while as a member of the Coast Guard.
Yeah, it's screwy, but that's the way the rules work.
If, however, you were to attend the USAF Senior NCO Academy (we take 40 Coast Guardsmen a year), you would get to wear it again... along with an oak leaf cluster.
Even more screwy.
Q: Form 214 Out of Basic and AIT?
Do Basic Training and AIT Graduates now come out with Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal, AND Global War On Terrorism Service Medals on their form 214?
A: why do a lot of army questions on here have to do with getting medals for not actually doing anything?
I mean they are always asking questions about getting medals before even doing anything to get them. You haven't been to a combat zone but want a national defense medal haven't done anything against terrorism. I mean doesn't everyone who joins the military in a time of war or in a time of peace defend the country that same as someone who just got out of boot camp?
I can't even find my medals (which my girlfriend finds odd) but I didn't join or serve for medals.
I'm not trying to knock the army but it just seems like there are tons of questions on here where people are trying to see how manymedals they qualify for before they ever deploy.
The army's uniform to me seems like an episode of pimp my uniform, there are way too many patches and stuff on them
ArmyChem: Yeah my problem isnt with the medals being awarded it is all of the "Can I have one, do I get one, please please please" in the questions on here by the newly joined army people.
I do find it sad that coming out of boot camp they get any medals. just handing them out takes away from those you earn and deserve.
Q: Question about a medals?
I served in the Navy about 15 years ago and have a National Defense Medal. I have been in the process of re-enlisting, and just last night took my oath, so now I am offically back in. My question is, since I have a National Defense Medal, from the Gulf War era, am I authorized to put a star on if for the war on terrorism?
A: You should be able to according to the Navy web site below... I actually doubt the war on terror would qualify though... but Iraq and Afghanistan sure does.
Remember, Obama said that we are not having a war on terror anymore... we are having "Overseas contingency operations".
Q: In what order are army medals placed on a mounting bar?
Bronze star, Army commendation, Good conduct medal, National defense service medal, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry cross with palm
A: Rack Builder is now located at a different site. I linked it below.
